I am pleased to announce that I’m returning to Flow Tunbridge Wells to host the next Introduction to Mindfulness course from 29th April 2019. This course will be held on Monday lunchtimes from 12.30pm – 2.00pm at Flow on Woodbury Park Road.
The cost is £150.00 for the 8 week course. This includes the group classes, guided meditations for home practice and all materials.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a proven technique to help increase self-awareness, manage stress and improve wellbeing. It does this by bringing us into the present moment of our felt experience, using the breath and body to explore what is actually going on for us right now. In this way, we are better able to practice turning towards our experiences and ourselves with kindness and curiosity. We can then consider the kinds of actions and steps we can take, if any, that will help with the situations we find ourselves in.
How does the course work?
In this 8 week course, we will learn the core mindfulness meditation practices, as well as practice inquiry into our experiences. There will also be some teaching around the theory and neuroscience behind how mindfulness is believed to work. Each session will comprise meditation practices, inquiry and discussion. Home practice is a key component of mindfulness, and students will be provided with guided meditations to use at home. The course is taught by Lucy Lucas, a trained yoga, meditation and mindfulness instructor.
Who is the course for?
Mindfulness is for everyone! It can especially help with the following:
- improving focus and attention
- managing stress and anxiety
- staying in the moment and enjoying life
- learning more about yourself and improving self awareness
- developing resilience in the face of uncomfortable situations and feelings
- practising kindness towards yourself
- learning to respond not react: being able to stay calmer and choosing a different response
Mindfulness can help those who suffer from depression and anxiety. I have had depression since I was child and it has helped me immeasurably. HOWEVER, is NOT suitable for those currently experiencing a depressive or anxious episode. This is because you may find it hard to sit with your experiences and get benefits from the meditation practices; in addition, some mental health conditions are contraindicated with meditation. If you are unsure, please contact me. A GP referral may be required.
